Global Shark Attack Dashboard

I created an interactive dashboard using the Global Shark Attack File found on the Shark Research Institute’s website, sharks.org. The file is considered an incident log with descriptions of shark encounters and attacks from around the globe over thousands of years. After some cleaning and regrouping, I was able to create the dashboard in Power BI.

Takeaway #1: There was a drastic decline in shark attacks in 2020 due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

Takeaway #2: According to the dataset, at least two-thirds of the known shark attacks were not fatal.

Takeaway #3: The vast majority of attacks were considered unprovoked by the human. Some observations, however, explained that people were fishing for sharks or finning.

Takeaway #4: The US and Australia have the highest attack records.

Takeaway #5: Swimming, surfing, and fishing were the most common activities preceding a shark attack and the most likely body parts to be injured were limbs.
